About

Hi, how are you? My name is Georg Kaindl and I'm a twenty-something living in Vienna, Austria. Currently, my main occupation is studying computer science at the Vienna University of Technology where I've already earned a BSc (with honors) and am currently aiming for an MSc.

Myself

I'm focusing on multimedia and design as well as computational logic and discrete mathematics. This may look like a weird combination at the first glance, and maybe it is, but that's exactly why I'm interested in it: I believe that the most interesting fields of research lie in the gaps between the different aspects of computer science, those that are rarely ever examined. Most designers aren't technologists or mathematicians and vice versa. I like being able to combine knowledge and experience from all three fields to advance my personal agenda of achieving world domination.

Personally, I'm also interested in interaction and interface design as well as socially-driven applications. Consequently, I'm pretty excited about the Web 2.0 buzz. Above everything else, I'm fascinated by the process of bringing advanced software technologies to end users while creating opinionated applications that stay true to their own vision, both in design and in implementation.

Mii!

In the autumn of 2006, I began writing shareware for the Mac under the brand name codelaide software. I also have a few other side-projects running, mostly involving personal research and private software development that will probably make it into full products (either for public, research or personal use).

I've also become super-interested into the stock market lately. Just the idea of taking a company's assets, research, know-how, employees and everything else that matters, stirring a bit and boiling them down into a single number fascinates me. While I'm more of a learner than a master at the moment, I've already had quite some success, which only fuels my interest more.

Additionally, I enjoy playing the guitar, listening to music, watching movies and all the other standard stuff that basically everyone likes. I'm also a casual video and computer gamer: Being a big fan of the 'Easy' setting, I'm mostly interested in the design aspect of a game as well as the overall experience, rather than going for the high-scores. That sounds more elitist than I wanted it to: Actually, I still play games for fun!

To sum it up, I didn't choose the "nerd nouveau" motto for being a funky alliteration. In fact, I think it describes myself well: Coming from a generation and a background where a solid foundation in technology and mathematics is essential, I think that the traditional cliché of the uninspired nerd is no longer applicable. I rather see the classic nerd skills as stepping stones for a person with a multitude of interests to combine diverse fields such as design, technology and creativity to form their own vision and identity. That's what I call the "nerd nouveau".

Of course, you can also drop me an email: I'm just using a little 'verify-that-you-are-human'-riddle here to keep the SPAM at acceptable levels.

To get my email address, take the word before the .com in my domain name first (Hint: The word you are looking for starts with a "g" and ends with an "l"). Next, simply attach @mac.com to this word.

That's it, now you have my email address. Go write something nice!

About

Hi, how are you? My name is Georg Kaindl, and I'm a twenty-something from Vienna, Austria. During the day, I'm a CS student at the Vienna University of Technology, but at night, I turn into an independent software developer for the Macintosh platform, social nerd, lazy entrepreneur and intuitive researcher.

I like to write about everything that matters to considerate technology enthusiasts, but humbly retain the right to go off-topic from time to time.

You can reach me by email if you have something to say that's not related to a blog post or that you don't want to have publicly available as a comment to a post.

However, you'll have to prove that you are human! Even though I personally like robots very much, I'm less of fan of SPAM. It's just a simple riddle to solve, but a SPAM bot won't cut it!

Boom, there's my email address. Simple, isn't it?
